Highlights during the years
Much has happened since the company was founded in 1982. Soon after the establishment we had one tanker. Today we have more than 80. To conclude, we have grown considerably and rapidly in 28 years.

2010
Unique ship prototype named in Gothenburg
The 15-metre long ship prototype Stena Airmax was named 30 april in Gothenburg. The prototype is part of a project in which an “air cushion” is being tested to investigate to what extent it reduces the friction between the hull and the water, thus also reducing fuel consumption and emissions of large tankers in the future. Anneli Hulthén, Chairperson of the Gothenburg City Executive Board, was the godmother at the naming ceremony.

2009
P-MAX Stena Progress named in Split
Concordia Maritime’s product tanker Stena Progress was named at Brodosplit Shipyard in Split. On delivery, the vessel will enter a 5-year charter with the French energy company Total. The Stena Progress is the seventh tanker of ten in the so-called P-MAX series.
Stena Bulk – the winner of the first “Clean Innovation Award” at Nor-Shipping in Oslo
The Clean Innovation Award winner is Stena Bulk AB, Gothenburg in recognition of exceptional efforts to develop new products and services, like the Stena E-MAXair, that contribute to the environmental performance of the world’s merchant fleet.

Stena Bulk opens up in Finland
With the growing Baltic business and a further concentration on more ice-classed tonnage, we proudly opened Stena Bulk Finland.
Mr. Mauri Harki has been appointed to serve as Chartering Manager of the new office, which will be set up in downtown Helsinki. Its main focus is on Baltic, Scandinavian and Russian business.

Stena Bulk forms joint venture with Japanese shipping company Asahi Tankers
Stena Bulk and Asahi Tanker Co formed a joint venture company, Asahi Stena Tankers which invests in tonnage of varying sizes. The focus is on investments in Suezmax tankers for global transportation of crude oil.

Stena Bulk President Shipping Profile of the Year
The Swedish media association Göta Älvklubben has chosen a "Shipping Profile of the Year" every year since 1995. The aim is to draw attention to some of all the people who work in the shipping industry in Sweden and thus make the general public aware of what is happening in the maritime sector.
During the year, the person chosen must have distinguished him or herself with new ideas, good entrepreneurship, a well-defined vision or in some other way have exemplified the driving force in today’s Swedish shipping.

Stena Bulk makes SEK billion strategic acquisition Stena Bulk purchased three MR product tankers for a total of approx. SEK 1 billion from Italian Gestioni Armatoriali Spa in Ravenna. The three vessels, the Stena Conqueror, the Stena Conquest and the Stena Italica, which Stena has controlled via long-term charters ever since they were built. » Read more
Stena Bulk buys into premium Shipping Company Stena Bulk acquired thirty-five percent (35%) equity ownership stake in the privately held Greek shipping company Paradise Tankers Holding Corp. The acquisition, which has total share capital valued at an estimated USD 250 million, provides Stena Bulk with full commercial control of yet another fleet of three newly built Panamax tankers and two dry-cargo bulk carriers. » Read more

2007
Stena Bulk celebrates 25th anniversary Much has happened since the company was founded. At first, the fleet consisted of one vessel; today the fleet has around 70 ships and the annual turnover is around SEK 3 billion. In connection with the anniversary, the book “The History of Stena Bulk” was published.
New agreement with TOTAL The agreement is for a 5-year time charter of the product tanker Stena Progress, which will be delivered from Brodosplit Shipyard in Croatia at the end of 2009. Stena Progress is part of the prosperous P-MAX series.
Sonangol and Stena Bulk start Panamax tanker pool Stena Bulk and Sonangol have expanded their successful shipping collaboration and are now also operating a pool with Panamax tankers together. Initially, the pool consists of five Panamax tankers, but the aim is to expand it. » Read more

2006
Stena Bulk in major deal with Neste Oil We sold 50% of the tanker Stena Arctica to Neste Oil. The Finnish oil company will also operate the vessel on a 10-year charter from January 1, 2007.
Stena Bulk and Concordia maritime embrace Green Passports. Stena Bulk and Concordia Maritime chose to embrace Green Passports and be at the forefront of future requirements.
Deliveries and christening of four new vessels. In 2006 we took delivery and named four new vessels: Stena Arctica (named in Gothenburg in January), Stena Primorsk (Stockholm in June), Stena Performance (Charlston in October) and Stena Atlantica (named in Dubai in December).

2005
StenTex fully integrated with Stena Bulk We carried out a reorganization, which resulted in StenTex being fully integrated with Stena Bulk. This means that Stena Bulk now operate worldwide under a single, strong brand name.
Stena Compass and Stena Compassion sold to Aries Maritime Ltd The two Stena Panamax tankers, Stena Compass and Stena Compassion, were sold to Aries Maritime Ltd, a listed company in New York.
Stena Bulk and Sonangol establish a Suezmax pooling venture Stena Bulk and Sonangol jointly announced the establishment of a Suezmax pooling venture on March 2005. This new pooling venture will serve as a platform for the two companies to commercially operate their respective Suezmax vessels.
Far-reaching joint venture with Russian Sovcomflot. Stena Bulk joined a far-reaching joint venture with the Russian state-owned company Sovcomflot. The venture includes development of the so-called B-MAX tanker design and sponsoring of the Macharov Marine Academy.

Floated Arlington Tankers on the New York Stock Exchange Floated Arlington Tankers on the New York Stock Exchange and sold both V-MAXs, two Dalian Panamaxes and two S-47 MR tankers with 5-8 years T/C back.
StenTex branded as Stena Bulk worldwide On September 1, StenTex was branded as Stena Bulk worldwide.
Two new ice-class 1A Panamax tankers ordered We placed a new order of two ice-class 1A Panamax tankers, on 50/50 basis with Fortum, Finland, against 10 years time charter to Fortum.
10-year time charter with Progetra signed Stena Bulk chartered two Stena P-MAXs to Progetra for 10 years.
Acquired 50% in the shuttle tanker Nordic Rio Stena Bulk acquired 50% in the shuttle tanker Nordic Rio and concluded 13 years bareboat charter to Petrobras, Brazil.
Established joint venture with Chinese Cosco We established joint venture with Cosco, China, on two brand new Suezmaxes, 159,000 dwt.
New 10 year time charter with Russian Progetra Progetra, Russia, signs a 10 year time charter for Stena Bulk’s new Super ice-classed Aframax tankers to be named Stena Arctica and Stena Antarctica.

The last two 1970s VLCCs sold to SBM The last two 1970s built Concordia Class VLCCs were sold to SBM for offshore conversion after 30 years of flawless operation.

Six new P-MAX vessels ordered from Brodosplot Shipyard Six 49,900-dwt product tankers of Stena P-MAX design are ordered from Brodosplit Shipyard in Croatia.
Acquisation of four new MR product tankers Four 47,000-dwt MR product tankers under construction at Uljanik in Croatia were bought by Stena Bulk.
Two new Super Ice-class 1A Aframaxes ordered The two Super Ice Class 1A Aframaxes (116,000 dwt) were ordered from Hyundai in South Korea.
Stena Bulk opens office in Moscow Opening of Stena Bulk Moscow office took place in 2003. That made us the first international tanker owner in Moscow.

Stena Bulk and Norwegian Ugland formed a 50/50 joint venture Stena Bulk and Ugland, Norway, formed a 50/50 joint venture company as a vehicle for Shuttle Tanker investments. Two shuttle tankers (127,000 dwt) were ordered in Japan for 10-15 years charter to Esso Norway.

Stena Bulk signed long-term contract with Engen Petroleum Engen Petroleum and Stena Bulk signed a long-term, fixed rate contract, for VLCC transportation from Middle East to South Africa. Contract was to last for 8 years.
Stentex launched as a joint venture between Stena Bulk and Texaco In 1995, StenTex was officially launched as a 50/50 joint venture between Stena Bulk and Texaco with offices worldwide and with about 600 cargo movements per year.

1970’s-built VLCC sold to the offshore industry The first 1970’s-built VLCC sold to the offshore industry (ELF) as an FPSO.
Long-term Contract of Agreement signed with Petrofina Long-term Contract of Agreement signed with Petrofina for VLCC transportation of crude from the Middle East to Europe. This was a pioneering “market related” contract that has since become an industry model. (Contract lasted for 5 years).

Purchase of VLCC fleet of 6 vesssels from Universe Tankships Universe Tankships (Daniel K Ludwig) VLCC fleet of 6 vessels was purchased at MUSD 200 enbloc with long-term charters to Messrs Texaco. Additional 2 VLCCs, now called the “Concordia Class VLCCs”, were taken on 10 years charter from Universe. Fleet had grown to 4.3 million dwt.

The world’s fifth and sixth largest ships were purchased The world’s fifth and sixth largest ships Stena King and Stena Queen, 458,000 dwt each, were purchased and added to the fleet, now totalling 3.5 million dwt.
The Swedish Polar Research Secretarieat chose Stena Arctica for expedition The Swedish Polar Research Secretariat chose the largest ice reinforced bulk carrier in the world, Stena Arctica (32,000 dwt with Super Ice Class 1A), as the ship for their expedition to the South Pole.
